Day 01

Bandaranayake Airport – First impressions of Sri Lanka – Negombo

Once your plane landed at Bandaranaike International Airport, you can feel the tropical heat, smell spicy scents and you will see men and women in colorful sarongs. Welcome to Sri Lanka!

You will be meet on arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport and warmly greeted by a Sunway Holidays representative. We drive to our hotel in the old fishing village of Negombo which has a long Dutch influenced history. At the hotel you will try a tasty traditional Sri Lankan Cinnamon drink waiting for you to cool you down. You will get a brief explanation of the ingredients and the preparation method affected yours. Enjoy your first night in Sri Lanka.

Day 02

Negombo

Enjoy your first breakfast in Sri Lanka. Afterwards enjoy an amazing city tour with a traditional Tuk Tuk – the local public transport in Sri Lanka. During a city tour you will learn about the city, you can taste the colonial past with the Dutch fort, look around at local markets and you will visit both St. Mary’s Church and the Buddhist Temple Angurukaramulla. In the afternoon make a nice cool boat ride across the lagoon. The channels (Dutch Canals) that you sail are part of a water network that is dug by the Dutch, to promote the spice trade. Admire while cruising the many exotic birds and coconut palm plantations and cinnamon gardens on the banks. Make a stop at a traditional Cinnamon plantation and get a nice explanation how Cinnamon is cultivated in Sri Lanka. Then return back to your hotel by Tuk Tuk and enjoy an evening on leisure.

Day 03

Negombo – Sailing Cruise to Dutch Lagoon – St Annes Church – Kalpitiya

 

After breakfast, drive to Kalpitiya, about 3 hours north of Negombo. There’s a myriad of exciting watersports options available at Kalpitiya, such as sea kayaking, windsurfing and catamaran sailing.

After arrival in Kalpitiya you will make a boat tour between the little islets of the lagoon and head to Dutch Bay, located north of the lagoon. Return to hotel for lunch. Then visit the historic St. Anne’s Catholic Church and enjoy a delicious barbecue by the beach for dinner.

Day 04

Kalpitya – Whalewatching – Munneswaram Temple – Kalpitiya

Embark on an early morning whale watching tour. With a little bit of luck you will see blue wales, sperm wales,  or  dolphins Return to hotel for a filling breakfast. 

Afterwards drive to the Munneswaram temple. The temple is an important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka. It has been in existence at least since 1000 CE, although myths surrounding the temple associate it with the popular Indian epic Ramayana, and its legendary hero-king Rama. The temple is one of the ancient Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to Shiva in the region. Get an authentic insight to the hinduism in Sri Lanka during your visit.

Afterwards return back to the empty beaches of Kalpitiya.

Day 05

Kalpitiya – Aukana Buddha Statue – Sigiriya

After your breakfast at the hotel proceed to Sigiriya.
En route visit the Aukana Buddha statue. It is a standing statue of the Buddha near Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. The statue, which has a height of more than 40 feet (12 m), has been carved out of a large granite rock face during the 5th century. It depicts a variation of the Abhaya mudra, and the closely worn robe is elaborately carved. Constructed during the reign of Dhatusena, it may have been made as a result of a competition between a master and a pupil. Avukana statue is one of the best examples of a standing statue constructed in ancient Sri Lanka. It is nowadays one of the main sight in the country.

Then drive on to Sigiriya. After your arrival check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 06

Sigiriya – Sigiriya Rock – Polonnaruwa by bicycle – Sigiriya

After breakfast explore the Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is a World Heritage site of 5th century AD, built by the King Kashyapa. Its home to water gardens, frescoes, ancient graffiti and commands an amazing view of Sri Lanka’s greenery. Only the fit and adventurous will want to climb the rock, but all can enjoy the superb ruins and fine views around the base. Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is a World Heritage site of 5th century AD, built by the King Kashyapa. Its home to water gardens, frescoes, ancient graffiti and commands an amazing view of Sri Lanka’s greenery.

In the afternoon visit Polonnaruwa on a bicycle.
Sri Lanka’s splendid medieval capital was established as the first city of the land in the 11th Century, A.D. It replaced Anuradhapura, plundered made desolate, and laid hopelessly bare to the invading armies from South India. To see many of the relics excavated from the site such as the stone lion which once guarded the palace of King Nissanka Malla, or the fine Hindu bronzesunearthed from the ruins of the Siva Devale Temple – you may have to visit the National Museum in Colombo, where they are kept. However, with the opening of the new Polonnaruwa Visitor Information Centre and its museum in 1998/9 some of the key exhibits were scheduled to return to the place where they were discovered.

Day 07

Sigiriya – Dambulla – Matale – Kandy

(Travel time – ca. 2 hours and 30 minutes; distance – 90 Km)

Impressing Cave Temple & traditional spices

Breakfast at hotel. Leave for Kandy.
En route visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. The cave temples of Dambulla include five caves under a wide overhanging cliff. It is believed that King Valagambahu in the 1st century BC. The temple was designed in the caves. In 1938, the building with colonnades and pediments was provided. Inside the caves are numerous Buddha statues. The caves are also decorated with beautiful ceiling and wall paintings of religious content.

Shortly before Kandy visit a traditional spice garden in Matale to learn more about the typical spices of the island and their use in Sri Lanka kitchens.

In the evening visit in Kandy a traditional demonstration of the Kandy dances. Admire the colorful robes and follow the dance steps. Get carried away by the atmosphere and enjoy the evening.

After that you check in to your hotel and relax the rest of the evening at your accommodation.

Day 08

Kandy – Pinnawela – Kandy

After your breakfast at the hotel visit in time for the morning puja ceremony the sacred tooth temple where a canine Lord Buddha is kept. The precious relic draws many pilgrims every day.

Later visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala. It was initiated in 1975 to foster care for the abandoned and orphaned elephant calves. This quickly grew in size and more elephants, adults and calves alike, born at the Pinnawala grounds or transferred there, joined the herd.
These giant yet gentle creatures wonder around in the sanctuary, being fed and bathed by their foster human parents. Twice a day the herd is led to the river nearby where all the elephants have two hours of fun which refreshes them. You are welcome to join them and interact with them while feasting your eyes on the largest gathering of tame elephants.

Return to your hotel in Kandy and leisure.

Day 09

Kandy – Train Ride to Nanu Oya – Tea Factory – Ella

After breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya, well known as “Little England”. See the mountains covered with tea bushes and the impressive waterfalls and enjoy this magnificent landscape.

You will enjoy an amazing train ride to Nanu Oya and enjoy the jaw-dropping scenery on the way. You will ride an air-conditioned car for the 3-hour journey. A snack will be served on board. Upon arrival, your driver will pick you up from your train station and transfer you to Nuwara Eliya, a beautiful colonial town with the charm of an English village.

Visit one of the many tea plantations and a tea factory where the best tea in the world is produced. Watch the tea pluckers pick two leaves and a bud with deft hands. Then go to the factory where the all-important conversion to “made” black tea happens. The machinery used is of very traditional British design, some as old as 100 years. The process is a very artisanal one, unchanged for a century. Observe the process of manufacturing tea and tea grading and don´t forget to taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea.

Day 10

Ella – Horton Plains – Lipton’s Seat – Little Adam’s Peak – Ella

Get your packed breakfast in the early morning and leave to visit Horton Plains national park situated in Ohiya.

It’s a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. It’s a beautiful and strange world with some excellent hikes which includes the Sri Lanka’s second highest mountain, Kirigalpoththa. Better known as the “World’s End” on a nature trail. Variety of birds & butterfly life, flora & fauna etc. could be seen. Early morning (between 6.00am to 10.00am) is the best time to visit before the below villages and valley covered in clouds.

Then visit the Lipton’s Seat. It is located at Dambetenna in the Haputale Mountain region. This place was a favourite look-outpoint for Sir Thomas Lipton. The point has a fabulous view over Uva, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Eastern provinces.
Drive on to your hotel in Ella and enjoy some time for refreshing and relaxation.

Day 11

Ella –  Little Adam’s peak – Udawalawe Jeep Safari – Udawalawe

After early breakfast, you will climb the Little Adam`s Peak. It got it`s named after it`s big brother, the holy mountain Adam`s Peak, because of the similar shape. Adam`s Peak is further west in Sri Lanka, close to Nuwara Eliya, and is 2243 m high and a much more exhausting and more challenging climb!
Climbing the Little Adam’s Peak is not a challenging hike and it`s quite short, but gives you a good impression of the landscape around Ella and the view is fantastic! So absolutely worth the climb! Enjoy your amazing view at the top and take some pictures of the impressing landscape.

After your climb drive to the Udawalawe National Park to enjoy an exhilarating jeep safari.
The Udawalawe National Park is a unique eco-tourism hotspot famed predominantly for its vast elephant population, spotted either on the banks of a lake or in the dense jungle.
Deers, buffalos, and a good variety of birds can also be seen here.

Day 12

Udawalawe – Elephant Transit Home – Galle City Tour – Unawatuna

After breakfast leave to your beach hotel in Unawatuna. On the way you will visit the Elephant Transit Home, where rescued elephants are taken care of before they are released back into the wild.
Afterwards, proceed to Galle Fort, one the most recognizable sights in the south of Sri Lanka. No visit to the south will be complete without seeing this impressive architectural masterpiece, built by the Dutch during the 17th century. It was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1988 for its architectural and historical significance. Although this complex is now lined with designer stores, chic restaurants and cafes, it continues to maintain its traditional charm.
Visit the nearby Dutch Museum and the Dutch Church before proceeding to the hotel for overnight stay.

Then drive on to the stunning Unawatuna beach for your first amazing day by the sea. Walk on the golden beach, enjoy the sun and you might even spot turtles! Meet up with your bike guide for a leisurely cycling trip through the countryside. Ride past rice fields, charming villages and beautiful gardens. Take a break to enjoy a refreshing glass of coconut water.

Relaxing at the beach

The following days you relax on the beach at your resort. Relax at the pool, jump into the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, or take a walk on the sandy, palm fringed beach and sip a king coconut.
If you want to you can make a trip to a turtle hatchery and learn a bit more about these fascinating marine creatures closer.
Make a relaxing boat ride on the Madu River, where you can admire the numerous bird species and village life.

Day 15

Unawatuna – Colombo City Tour – Bandaranaike Airport

(Travel time – ca. 2 hours and 30 minutes; distance – 160 Km)

Colombo City Tour & farewell of Sri Lanka

Enjoy you last breakfast in Sri Lanka at your hotel and take a last walk along the beautiful sandy beach. With many impressions you start your drive to the Bandaranaike airport.
On the way stop in Colombo and make a city tour. Colombo is a busy and vibrant metropolis and economic capital of Sri Lanka. Visit some historic attractions such as the Independence Square, the old Parliament and the Galle Face Green. Almost all buildings in the city were built during the British colonial era and are now elegantly refurbished, without having lost their original charm. Colombo has many top restaurants, nightclubs, bars and shops.
You will then be taken to the airport and it is time to say goodbye to the beautiful island of Sri Lanka.

Hotel availability is given at the time of inquiry being processed. We will take every effort to block the rooms in the proposed hotels. However final confirmation of proposed hotels will be subject to availability on receiving your confirmation, followed by timely payment. Full payment should be received at least 14 days prior to arrival for Sri Lanka and 30 days prior to arrival for Maldives.

If the payment is received later, the hotel/s will be subject to availability at the time of receiving payment. In the event a mentioned hotel is not available, a hotel of similar category will be offered and a supplement could be applicable.

However, we will not accept any responsibility in the event of cancellation of hotel due to not receiving of payment from you on time & for having offered an alternative hotel.
The price quoted is valid only for a particular request and the price can change for similar inquiries depending on the hotel occupancies.

Within 14 – 08 days – 75% cancellation charge.
Within 21-15 days – 50% cancellation charge.
If any advance payments are made to any hotels or other suppliers to reserve services, those will be added to the cancellation charges.

Cost of Airport tax is included to the flight ticket. However, this could differ for Charter flights.
